I’m Rhea Perry and what I have discovered about home educating an entrepreneur or two has led me into the realm of home business. It just seems to be the natural next step for life-long students who are self-motivated… and for ADD types like me who can’t sit still for 10 minutes. My oldest son, Drew, became a real estate investor when he was 18. By the time he was 21, he had purchased 21 houses and brought his dad home from corporate America. When my husband’s dad became ill and came to live with us, my husband was able to stay home and keep him for the remaining years of his life until he died in March, 2006. I want to guarantee that all the effort I invest in my children’s education will pay off so that they will leave home with knowledge and skills of how to live financially free.
I also want to guarantee that all the effort I invest in my own personal businesses will not only help others immensely and even change their lives but will pay its own way and be profitable as well.

I Have Discovered That the Method of Learning
Offering the Highest Rate of Success is Mentoring.
From the time Drew was 12, he had mentors.
He apprenticed with an auto mechanic, but didn’t become an auto mechanic.
He spent a month with a stock market options expert, but he doesn’t trade options.
He worked on a free-range chicken farm but he isn’t a farmer.
All of these men impacted his life in different ways and contributed to the character he developed. It is true; a student becomes like his teacher so be careful who you allow to mentor your young people.
Having a mentor cuts light years off your learning curve.
Yet finding good mentors who have cutting edge knowledge of how to make money is often difficult. And when you find one or two who knows how to make money, they often don’t want to share their secrets with others.
Learn to Work for Yourself
I believe that everyone is gifted and should employ their hands to serve others in whatever way you enjoy working. Yet, most of us haven’t been given the opportunity to experiment with vocational options, so we don’t know what we can do to generate an adequate income.
All we have been told is to get a job and work for someone else.
Well, that worked during the Industrial Revolution but times have changed. The Internet has leveled the playing field so that you no longer need a college degree to get a “good job.”
Opportunity now lies at the fingertips of anyone with an email address.
Welcome to the Information Age!
So as the business world must adapt to the global economy, I personally believe the education world must change as well. Yet the challenge becomes where to find teachers and more importantly, mentors who have their finger on the pulse of the cutting edge.
During the past few years, Drew and I have attended a LOT of conferences and met MANY very successful professionals who were willing to teach others what has worked for them. Families looking for home business opportunities tell me all the time, “We don’t know where to look for educational information and inspiration that we desperately need ....” They simply don't know where to look or what to do to find that missing connection between where they are now, and where they want to be. They also don’t know what they want to do. |

As a result, I started Entrepreneur Days, an annual conference where parents can take their children to learn about a variety of home businesses together.

I have found myself in an incredible position during the past 5 years. I’ve spent many weekends at professional events with many experts who are discovering different ways to make money from home, especially on the Internet.
They are called the Internet millionaires. My personal Internet marketing mentor is software developer and conference host Armand Morin. Several years ago, Armand encouraged me to start a mentoring program,
so I could share what I was learning with others. I didn’t
feel I was qualified. I didn’t think I had the time to invest.
But Armand didn’t tell me the real reason; I had to find that
out later. |

He knew that being involved with a thriving group of like-minded individuals who were all as hungry as I was to learn more about this entrepreneurial journey of home business would teach me more than I could ever learn on my own, plus encourage me during the hard times.
He knew that the best way to learn something is to experience it together with others as you are teaching it.
So I stepped out in faith, having no clue what to expect, and created a community where families can learn about home business together.
In 2001, as a homeschooling mom of boys ages
9, 6, 4, and 6 months, I suddenly became a single mom. A year later,
my
child support ended. I was broke and reluctantly went on food stamps.
I had years of experience as a freelance editor, so I resumed that
work, but I didn’t know much about running a business. That’s
when I met Rhea Perry. |
During our first year, I learned what works with a group and what doesn’t. But most important of all, I caught a vision for the power of fellowship.
You Need Others!
I know it’s not like this at YOUR house, but sometimes, not everyone in your circle of influence completely and totally understands your desire to have your own business.
Not everyone you sit next to on the pew at church agrees that you should create passive residual income to guarantee you’ll be able to pay the bills during your retirement years.
When you mention your visions, dreams and goals, your best friend may just yawn and say, “That’s nice.”
When you plaster a picture of a nicer house on the wall above your bed, your family may take it down and say, “You wish.”
So What is an Entrepreneur To Do to Encourage Himself?
What can you do when a dark day of depression makes you want to throw in the towel and apply for a job at McDonald’s?
Well, here’s the answer that has worked for me.
Find Like-Minded Fellowship
Join a community of like-minded entrepreneurs who may not have arrived at their destination yet, but who are on the path and working toward achieving their goals. That way, there is always someone around to say a good word, recommend the latest ebook or send you to a website that answers that technical question you just couldn’t answer. And when your friends question your sanity about wanting to have your own business, you’ll find comfort knowing that you are not alone. |

In fact, as the economic atmosphere in our country worsens, those who have taken control of their financial lives by having their own home businesses will prosper while others are being escorted to the door with a pink slip on a Friday afternoon.
Don't think it can't happen. There were businessmen in the Great Depression who prospered while others committed suicide.
When we bind together to learn collectively from each
others’
successes and mistakes,
everyone benefits.
When I make a mistake, I want to share it with you so you don't make the
same one. When I find an expert on the latest thing like podcasting, I
want to bring that person and that information to you.
God is for us. He wants his children to make a difference in this world.
Some people impact it 30 fold, some 60.
I Personally Want to Impact It 100 Fold!
Do I hear an "Amen?"
If we get a grade when we enter heaven for the works we have accomplished while on this earth, I want to earn a 100+! I want God to say, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”
Now we all know that our salvation is not based on our works. It is based only on the shed blood of Jesus Christ who died for us on Calvary. That’s how we get to Heaven.
But what we do while we are on this earth is another matter. We are supposed to live every day as unto the Lord, serving Him by serving others. Why not make the most of every day we are here instead of wasting our days watching movies or playing video games?
God doesn't want us focused on how we are going to pay the power bill,
He wants us to contribute our time and resources to helping others with
the talents He has given us.
We were put on this earth to be God's eyes, ears and hands. We have jobs
to do. You have a job to do. Yet sometimes we can't see what it is.
The challenge is to discover it. Yet there aren’t many around us who can help in that department.
That’s Where Rhea’s Proteges Can Help!
I stand in awe of what God can do! I know that it isn't all about just being in the right place at the right time, nor is it all about who you know. Rather, it is about allowing God to lead your steps and having Him put people in your path - people that understand your vision and that can help direct you in the way you should go. I know that with my skills and talents I can accomplish a lot. I can go and do things. I can pursue goals. I can make it happen. But how much more wonderful it can be to allow God to make it happen. How awesome it is to have God use people that I had not even known a year earlier to help rekindle the dreams that I had long since put away in the bottom of my hope chest. Well, thanks to you Rhea, and Rhea’s Protégés Program, my hope for next year is for an even more promising year than this one! With the support and leadership of my wonderful, loving, awesome, entrepreneurially-minded husband Tim, I started the year still a little shell-shocked with all I had learned from you at Entrepreneur Days in August of 2005 about the potential of internet marketing. I was going to finally being able to fulfill my dreams of working at home! We had stepped out in faith when we heard your presentation on the Protégé Program – Tim and I both looked at each other with a look of excitement at the opportunity to work with such a gifted, godly woman who always expends so much of her time and energy finding ways to help people just like us accomplish their dreams. Tim and I also attended the Education Days Protégé Day in Nashville during the Spring of 2006, and what can I say but the vision of the future started to become a reality! Rhea, you have a wonderful way of getting people to look at their potential and to help them see past the engrained notion that we all been raised with of trading hours for dollars. It is easy to see that you want us to see farther, go for higher goals, be successful and prosper financially. And for anyone who says God isn’t in financial prosperity, the more I am able to make, the more I am able to give. The more I have, the more I can share. The more money God allows my work to bring in, the more people I can help. To me that is a big part of what success means. Prosperity will position us with the resources to help people and to be able to do what God calls us to do. After all, if we’re not making a lot of money, even though we may be giving all we have or can, it cannot compare with what God can do through our finances when we become blessed beyond belief as our dreams of being successful entrepreneurs comes true! Tim and I want to thank you for the opportunity of lifetime of being able to take you out to dinner after the August 2006 Entrepreneur Days in Nashville. What can I say but what a rush...a rush of thoughts, dreams and desires starting out in a wild quagmire all being swept up and melded together into a coherent plan of action to make it all happen. Thank you also for the opportunity in November to do a presentation at the Fall Writer’s Retreat. You had asked me to talk about the joint venture we are doing for a Word Class in January of 2007. If people were to ask how on earth were Tim and I so blessed to be able to get the attention of a woman who has so many things going on in her life? Or if they wanted to know how it was that we stood out among the 560+ people that attended the two conferences this past fall? Or how were we able to get your individual attention? I know the answer. It was because of Rhea’s Protégés. It gave us contact with you, in a small group setting, twice a month with conference calls. We also met with you during several special “Protégé Days” where we had brainstorming sessions, again in a small group setting. Rhea, you spent so much time bringing us advisors to help point us in the right direction on this wonderful journey as well as tons of time encouraging us to go for our dreams! Rhea, you’ve not only helped Tim and I, but there are countless others whose lives you’ve touched. I always liked the poem that talks about “one hundred years from now…the world may be a little better because I was important in the life of a child.” You’ve been important in the lives of so many of us “children,” whether young or old. When we talk about you, we could change it to be “the world WILL be a little better because God used Rhea to encourage Christians to be entrepreneurs.” So Rhea, thank you very much.
